Procedures - 1. We begin by spending time in the library research the propositions each group has selected. Students read material, take notes and highlight important areas they will later use for their debate. Students also use this time to note all bibliographic material as they use the texts, so that later they can create the bibliography., 2. Using the computer as a reseach tool, students in groups, research on the internet for further supportive documentation regarding their proposition. Again, students note all bibliographic information along the way. Students also begin to use the computer to construct their outlines, typing their documents on these computers., 3. Students, in their small groups, work together to form their arguments, prepare their speeches and practice their presentations., 4. Continued practice of speeches, corrections made until the day of presentations. Student dress professionally and present debate in front of class as small groups.
Assessment Teacher collects completed outlines, bibliographies and flashcards from groups and individual students. Students are graded based on outlines and also on oral presentation.
