4th Quarter ELD Newsletter - Travel Research

 

Lesson Summary

 

Students will research a destination of their choice, write a research essay, and publish it in a course newsletter.

 

Objective(s)  1. Students will be able to use appropriate technology to search for and evaluate information on a specific travel destination., 2. Students will be able to communicate and collaborate effectively in order to publish research essays., 3. Students will be able to exhibit a positive attitude toward a variety of technology., 4. Student editors will be able to collaborate effectively in order to create original publications of essays.

COMMUNICATION AND COLLABORATION: use digital media and environments to communicate and work collaboratively, including at a distance, to support individual learning and contribute to the learning of others., COMMUNICATION AND COLLABORATION: contribute to project teams to produce original works or solve problems.

 

RESEARCH AND INFORMATION FLUENCY: apply digital tools to gather, evaluate, and use information.

 

CRITICAL THINKING, PROBLEM SOLVING AND DECISION MAKING:collect and analyze data to identify solutions and/or make informed decisions.

 

DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP: exhibit a positive attitude toward using technology that supports collaboration, learning, and productivity.

Technology Tools Internet Research, Word Processing, Email, Publication Software

 

Procedures - 1. Students will choose a travel destination to research. Teachers will model research with sample destination. Students will responsibly research destination using teacher-provided list of information required., 2. Students will use the writing process to create original research essays. Teachers will model with the sample topic. Students will word process their researched documents in MLA format., 3. Students will collaboratively revise and edit their documents in the ELD computer lab. , 4. Student newsletter editors will collaborate in order to creatively publish student essays submitted on flashdrive or by email.
