Lesson Summary

Students will evaluate a set of scores ranging from 0 to 100 and enter them into a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. They will then determine the letter grade by using a nested IF function formula. For example, any score from 90 to 100 will receive an “A" with lower scores receiving the appropriate letter grade. Once the formula has correctly been made, it will be copied down to all scores. Students will then evaluate the letter grade (A thru F) and will have a comment appear in the next cell based on that grade, by using another nested IF statement formula.

Objective(s)  1. Content area objective is to understand the purpose and use of the IF statement., 2. The technology objective is for students to learn how to use more than one IF function inside another, when operations of one IF function will not return the result needed.
NETS:

RESEARCH AND INFORMATION FLUENCY:process data and report results.

CRITICAL THINKING, PROBLEM SOLVING AND DECISION MAKING: critical thinking skills to plan and conduct research, manage projects, solve problems, and make informed decisions using appropriate digital tools and resources.

DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP: exhibit a positive attitude toward using technology that supports collaboration, learning, and productivity.

TECHNOLOGY OPERATIONS AND CONCEPTS: use models and simulations to explore complex systems and issues.

Technology Tools Spreadsheets,

Procedures - 1. Procedures include following the lecture example and the handout directions in completing the problem.

Assessment Assessment will include a quiz and the grading of the assigned problem. A future assessment will include a problem that builds on new concepts and practices ones that have already been learned which would include the nested IF Function
