American Author Research Paper

Students will select one American author and research his/her life and works utilizing MLA format. Students will be required to show parts of the writing process (ie. Notecards, works cited cards, rough drafts, peer edit, etc). Research will focus on the life of the author but also will require finding literary criticism about the author’s work and the student will need to read some of the author’s work and offer their own literary criticism. Minimum requirements: MLA format, 5-7 pages, 8 sources with a minimum of 4 non-Internet sources (ie. Books, anthologies, encyclopedias, etc)

Procedures - 1. 1) Show a powerpoint of various American Authors to help the students select their research topic. , 2. 2) Teach how to use MLA format, works cited cards, note cards, parenthetical documentation, and the works cited page, 3. 3) Spend time researching and then checking their note cards and works cited cards. Work on thesis statements and intro paragraphs. Peer edit rough drafts and Edit it myself., 4. 4) With the rough drafts, set up individual writing conferences and meet with students to discuss their work.
