Poe Media Presentation

Lesson Summary
As a group, students will work through a Edgar Allen Poe poem either self-selected or assigned by the teacher. The group is responsible for identifying the author's meaning as well as the mood and tone for the poem. The project will be presented by either using iPhoto, iMovie, or PowerPoint. The assignment is adapted from a webquest. The overall premise of the project is that the students are submitting their choice to a selection committee for an upcoming Poe festival.
Objective(s) 1. R 3.4 - Analyze the mood and tone of a text., 2. R 3.6 - Identify key literary devices that make up a writer's style and use those devices to interpret the work., 3. R 3.7 - Analyze a work and show how it reflects the attitudes and beliefs of the author., 4. LS 2.1 deliver a presentation.

Procedures - 1. Groups will be formed and students will either select their own poem or be issued one. The groups will also be given an assignment sheet outlining the assignment and the responsibilities of the group., 2. The group will conduct research on Poe and use that information for the creation of the products of the project. Each group will create a pamphlet and a poster in addition to the presentation., 3. Using one of the aforementioned presentation modes, the group will present the poem and the its meaning and mood and tone., 4.
