Students will use Garage Band on the Apple computers to create a song. They will use prior knowledge about composition and song forms to create a piece. They will research genres on the internet and choose appropriate instrumentation for the genre that they selected. They will then use this information to create their song.

Objective(s)  1. Students will compose short pieces using traditional and non-traditional sound sources including digital media., 2. Students will explore the use of musical forms by constructing a piece using Garage band., 3. Students will apply criteria appropriate for the style or genre of music to evaluate the quality and effectiveness of performances, compositions, and arrangements. ,

Procedures - 1. Students will review musical forms in class, 2. Students will research musical genres on the internet and create a list of appropriate instruments to use in their composition, 3. Students will use Garage band to compose their piece using appropriate instruments and form, 4. Students will play their compositions for their classmates and evaluate the quality and effectiveness.

Assessment Compositions will be played for the entire class and evaluated by their peers. They will also be graded against a rubric. They will then write a personal reflection.
