Chinese Dynasty Infomercial


Lesson Summary


Imagine that in the distant future, time travel will be made possible for the common person to participate. You are part of a time travel agency that specializes in the traveling to the dynasties of China. Your agency is in competition with other teams in your agency as to who can sign up the most travelers. Each agency specializes on one of the following dynasties: Sui, Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing.


Objective(s)  1. 7.3 Students analyze the geographic, political, economic, religious, and social structures of the civilizations of China in the Middle Ages. 7.3.1 Describe the reunification of China under the Tang Dynasty and reasons for the spread of Buddhism in Tang China, Korea, and Japan. 7.3.2 Describe agricultural, technological, and commercial developments during the Tang and Sung periods. 7.3.3 Analyze the influences of Confucianism and changes in Confucian thought during the Sung and Mongol periods. 7.3.4 Understand the importance of both overland trade and maritime expeditions between China and other civilizations in the Mongol Ascendancy and Ming Dynasty. 7.3.5 Trace the historic influence of such discoveries as tea, the manufacture of paper, woodblock printing, the compass, and gunpowder. 7.3.6 Describe the development of the imperial state and the scholar-official class.

Procedures - 1. Procedures You will create an Infomercial about one of the dynasties to entice people into visiting that period of time. You will need to be creative, original, convincing, and positive but also factual and accurate. Make your Infomercial stand out from the rest! You will need to include the following facts in your Infomercial: • the name of the dynasty and the dates of rule • a map to show its size You will also need to address the following subjects for your dynasty: 1. Origin and End • how did this dynasty come to power and govern China • important people involved in creating the dynasty • how did this dynasty come to an end 2. Belief Systems and Government • what belief systems did this dynasty encourage and discourage • how did this dynasty affect daily life in China • what system of government was used and how it was organized 3. Achievements • what were the achievements, accomplishments of this dynasty • important people involved – what were their accomplishments • list 2 ways this dynasty helped unite China Be sure to include graphics (pictures, pertinent objects, etc.) in your Infomercial. You may present your Infomercial on video or as a PowerPoint with audio(to be shown in class). You may use the attached Internet websites for research – DO NOT USE WIKIPEDIA AS A SOURCE.
